Drinking Water Harvested From Thin Air

You've probably heard this expression on a sweltering day: "It's not the heat, it's the humidity." Humidity can make us feel even warmer on hot days, but it also offers the potential to cool us off, thanks to a brilliant new technology invented at the Fraunhofer Institute.
Scientists realized that because humidity is caused by moisture in the air, it can be harvested as a source of drinking water in the desert and other places without a reliable source of water.
To wring water from warm air, the scientists fill a tower with hygroscopic brine. As it absorbs moisture from the air, the brine drips into goes a tank where the mixture is heated until the brine disappears, leaving clean drinking water. Eventually, the system could be used by hotels or individual homeowners.
